Early life: When and where was Atal Bihari Vajpayee born?
Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a three-time prime minister in Indian history, was born in a middle-class family on December 25 1924, in a village in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh district (ancestral village – Bateshwar).
His father, Krishna Bihari Vajpayee, was a teacher and poet. His mother’s name was Krishna Devi Vajpayee, and he had seven siblings, whose names we will tell you later.

Vajpayee Ji received his high school education from Saraswati Shiksha Mandir, Gorkhi, Bada, Vidyalaya, after which he completed his graduation from Laxmibai College and took his Bachelor of Law degree in Economics from DAV College located in Kanpur. .

Political life/journey of Atal Bihari Vajpayee
- Atal Bihari Vajpayee started his political career in 1942. As you all know, the Quit India Movement was in full swing then, and his brother was arrested in this movement. His brother had to stay in jail for 23 days, after which he was released. At the same time, he met Syama Prasad Mookerjee and joined the Bharatiya Jana Sangh Party at his request. Bharatiya Jana Sangh Party was formed in the year 1951.
- After this, in 1957, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji was given a ticket by Jan Sangh Party as its candidate for the election from Balrampur Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh district, and Atal Ji registered his first victory in the Lok Sabha elections. After this, seeing his achievement, he was made the party president. Atal Ji was the Foreign Minister in Morarji Desai’s government for two years, from 1977 to 1979, due to which he contributed a lot to our country in preparing the background of a confident country abroad.
- After this, in 1980, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji formed his party, Bharatiya Janata Party, and took over as the President on April 06 1980. The Lok Sabha election in 1996 was the first victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party across the country. With this election, BJP established its government for the first time in the country, and for only 13 days, from May 06 to June 21 1996, Atal Ji was sworn in as the tenth Prime Minister of the country.
- After running the government for only 13 days, Atal Ji’s government fell, and then in 1988, after two years of the government’s fall, the party came to power. On March 19 1998, Atal Ji took oath as the Prime Minister for the second time and again on October 10 1999. He was sworn in as the Prime Minister for the third time.

Made India a nuclear power country
First of all, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji, while being the Prime Minister, made our country a nuclear-powered country by detonating five underground nuclear tests on May 11 and May 13 in Rajasthan’s Pokhran in 1998.
It was a bold step which gave our country a different identity. This nuclear test of India was done in such secrecy that even the modern technology of western countries could not catch it.
After the nuclear test, some countries also imposed many sanctions, but Atal Ji did not care about all these things and went ahead and took our country to the heights of new economic development.
Initiative to improve relations with Pakistan
Atal Ji started the bus service from Delhi to Lahore on February 19 1999, as Sada-e-Sarhad.
He took the initiative to improve the mutual relationship between the two countries by starting a bus service.
At that time, he also visited Pakistan and met the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
